Genevieve Sylva, BA Hons

From a very early age, she has had a very keen ear and interest in music. Growing up in the church singing gospel music enabled her to sing in the choir and later conduct her local Pentecostal church choir. Genevieve comes from a talented family of musicians.

Over the years, Genevieve has developed her own unique smooth but exuberant vocal style, with a confident presence when singing. Graduating from the University of Wolverhampton with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Popular music has enhanced her musical abilities. She is an excellent singer-song writer, arranger and educator.

She performs with Black Voices, who shared the stage with Nina Simone, Ray Charles and Destiny’s Child. She has toured worldwide, in South Africa, USA and many places in Europe, experiencing many different styles and cultures. She also performs with the energetic West Midlands based group, Up 4 the Down Stroke. A memorable moment for Genevieve was when she sang with Take 6 at their master-class at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

Genevieve contributes in her community by teaching local school choirs and conducting workshops, performing at the ICC Symphony Hall, National Indoor Arena and venues throughout the West Midlands.

She has also recorded with Black Voices “Spiritual Journey” Album and Peter Daley “Apart from Life” Album on the track “Together”.

Currently Genevieve has been working with Birmingham Opera Company on a production, Verdi’s La Traviata, directed by Graham Vick. She helped establish the chorus that will sing and perform in the opera.

She also performed at the opening of Birmingham’s prestigious Town Hall with the BBC Big-Band, Strings of the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, which involved Steve Gray as Musical Director and Ken Burton as Choir Director. In this grand event, she sang a duet with Ruby Turner, sang along side Cleveland Watkiss and Birmingham Community Choir.

She is an established solo artist and has performed at the Oraclez Festival, Wembley Arena, Birmingham Town Hall, Symphony Hall, Jam House and various UK venues.

Genevieve released her debut CD Single “Never Be The Same” on 28th June 2010.
